KEITH ALLAN BUCKNER | b. 1957
Composer Keith Allan Buckner was born in Dearborn, Michigan in 1957 to Lester and Alice Buckner. Growing up with his brother and sister, he participated in sports, band, and choir. At a young age, he was honored with the "God and Country" medal in Boy Scouts by President Richard Nixon. Come age seventeen Mr. Buckner was performing professionally as a keyboardist. For thirty plus years, he performed with such notable musical acts as Majesty, Street Theory, Steve King and the Dittilies, Dennis Charles, Jimmy Ruffin, Steward Franke and the Point, The Ten Speeds, Little White Lies, and Micky Quattro. He performed in concerts with Chuck Berry, Jan and Dean, Ricky Nelson, Iron Butterfuly, Bachman-Turner-Overdirve, Rod Stewart and Sha Na Na.
Disabilities forced Buckner to "give up the road" where he moved back to Detroit accepting a position in marketing with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO). While working with the DSO, he received a Certificate of Recognition, also the honor of Executive Life Master with the contracted company, Arts Marketing, of Toronto, Canada. Mr. Buckner received degrees in Liberal Arts and Music from Schoolcraft College. Thereafter, he earned both Bachelors of Music in Composition and recently a Master of Music in Composition/Theory from Wayne State University. He had the priviledge of studying with composer James Hartway, theorist Karl Braunschweig and musicologist Mary Wischusen. Mr. Buckner's music has been performed regularly on a national and international basis, leading to numerous commissions and awards. Currently, Buckner composes and resides in Detroit, MI with his wife Helen.
